I AM A REPLICA

I am a replica is a project I made being in London. It started when I read “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” (1936) from Walter Benjamin. I automatically related to people.

We pretend to be what we are not because we are afraid of being rejected. The fear of being rejected become a fear of not being good enough. We start moving in masses to belong somewhere and be accepted. We end up being a copy of the society beliefs. We lost our aura and authenticity. Forever?

I AM A REPLICA

My aunt told me. “You looked like a rat when you were born”
Do not excel from the others
I have played “Pour Elise”
They choose your hobbies
I have already gone to mass, for years
I have learned to distort my smile
My boyfriend told me. “You have a strange face”
I don´t talk too much… and when they talk I always listen
From time to time I dream I am the navel of the world
I can not trust anyone else
I had always imagined heaven as when a cartoon died
Look my dear, here in heaven everything is terror
I am the replica of my common family tree

The aura will not accompany us until the day of our death unless we want to...
